Nowhere in the world is the word ‘roadtrip’ so synonymous as with the States as you immediately imagine wide open spaces, roads stretching endlessly before you and beautiful scenery everywhere you look. The West Coast in particular is renowned for its incredible sights and vibrant cities and so is one of the most popular places to go on a roadtrip as there are over 1500 miles of wild and rugged coastline for you to explore.

Many people start their roadtrip in the north at Seattle before slowly making their way down the coast, stopping off at all of its hidden sights. The thriving city is set on a gorgeous harbour and is a wonderful place to visit as there is a buzzing vibe about its streets. Home to such renowned companies as Microsoft and Starbucks, Seattle is always pushing the boundaries of what’s possible and lots of great national parks lie nearby.

Just under three hours drive south is one of Oregon’s most trendy cities: Portland. Full of hipsters, coffeeshops, craft beer breweries and unique little boutiques, it is a great place to spend a couple of days as you’ll want to explore as many of its hip neighbourhoods as possible before continuing on your way.

The next place to head is the awe-inspiring Redwood National Park in California. The towering trees are simply magnificent to behold and its almost impossible to understand just how big they are until you find yourself among them. You don’t have to be a nature lover to appreciate them and for many people it’s one of the highlights of their trip.

No roadtrip along the West Coast can ever be complete without stopping at San Francisco to see its iconic cable cars and steep hills that overlook the glimmering bay and the famous Alcatraz Prison. With the bustling Fisherman’s Wharf and the enormous Golden Gate Bridge for you to enjoy, you may find it hard to tear yourself away from all that there is to see and do!

If you eventually manage to make it out of the city then you’re gonna want to check out Big Sur. The wild coastline is full of secluded beaches for you to lounge on while there are some great surfspots to be had here and there. The scenery on show is heart-achingly beautiful and it’s no wonder that so many artists, singers and writers have come here for inspiration.

To draw your memorable roadtrip through some of the most incredible parts of the States to a close, you can’t top Los Angeles. The City of Angels as it is also known is not only home to Hollywood and countless celebrities but also some fantastic beaches and a plethora of things for you to see and do. Bordered by breathtaking national parks and only a stone’s throw away (in US terms!) from the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas and Joshua Tree National Park; Los Angeles is just the start of a whole new adventure!
